The short explanation of this alert was: Congress has not raised the paltry $5.15 an hour minimum wage since 1997, while voting to give themselves nine raises. Finally, Republican leaders in the U.S. House may allow a vote on increasing the wage. But opponents will try to replace the Senate-passed proposal to raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour with a smaller, stingier increase and amendments that would roll back workers’ rights.
