Governor's Defecit Reduction Will Reduce Health Services
New Horizons is a not-for-profit agency that provides services to developmentally disabled children and adults who live in the Hudson Valley. Governor Paterson's newly released Deficit Reduction Plan (DRP) will greatly limit the services that New Horizons can provide. The quality of care will ultimately be compromised as reduced funding will decrease the quality of care, shut down critical programs, and create job losses. For the sake of the residents, their families, and each community in the Hudson Valley that depends on New Horizons for their services, we are asking you to send a message to your State Senator and Assemblyman.
In addition, please contact the Governor's "Citizen Services" phone line at (518)474-8390.

Talking Points
- Governor Paterson's newly released Deficit Reduction Plan (DRP) will cut deeply into the funding of the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD), upon which New Horizons depends.
- The proposal will result in millions of dollars in cuts across the State. New Horizons' revenues will be decreased which will translate into a reduction of at least 10% of services.
- If the DRP passes, we can expect the OMRDD service system to be devastated, a compromise of quality of care, a shut down of critical programs, job losses, a negative impact on local economies, and a loss of matching federal funding.
- The State Legislature will be back in Albany on October 27th for an "Extraordinay Session" to act on the Governor's DRP. We need to tell the Governor and the Legislature that New Horizons is too important to our communities to make such a sacrifice.
