The post-Hurricane Katrina state takeover, and subsequent breakup of public schools into distinct systems, has had a disturbing impact on children, parents and teachers. It has resulted in mass firings of teachers and staff as well as increased segregation by income and race. Congress has invested significant resources toward the post-Hurricane Katrina rebuilding effort. Tell Congress to make sure that these funds are actually helping to provide a quality education to all of New Orleans’ children.
