Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit United Students Against Sweatshops. The short explanation of this alert was: The 400 workers, represented by the Communications Workers of America, at the Washington Post mail rooms in Maryland and Virginia have been working without a contract for over a year! The Washington Post/Kaplan Company has instituted a blatantly racist multi tier pay system in its mail room under which its new employees (99% African-American) get paid less than half the wage of more senior and mainly white employees. They are also unable to afford health care (they are forced to pay 30% of the cost), and have no ability to advance to the higher paying jobs, which the Post/Kaplan is attempting to phase out. These workers (called utility mailers) do the same jobs as the higher paid journeymen and helper mailers. The workers are demanding to be treated fairly in the workplace but Post/Kaplan will not budge and is attempting to increase hours with no increase in pay! Say no to the Washington Post/Kaplan Companies anti-worker attitude! Tell the Post to treat their workers fairly and demand equal pay for equal work!
