The short explanation of this alert was:

Public school secretaries, bookkeepers, and clerks are underpaid. Even though a study found that 55% of these employees have over 7 years experience and have a high level of job responsibility, the majority are being paid only $6.00-$10.00 an hour. We must tell our legislators to vote YES to a living wage!

There are two bills that would raise the hourly minimums for public school secretaries, bookkeepers, and clerks: Senate Bill 312, sponsored by Senator Tim Eichenberg, and House Bill 18, sponsored by Representative Jack Thomas.

Please do the following:

  • Write a personal letter to your state senator and representative. Find them by clicking here.
  • Ask them to vote for House Bill 18, sponsored by Representative Jack Thomas, and Senate Bill 312, sponsored by Senator Tim Eichenberg. These bills would finally provide decent hourly minimums for public school secretaries, bookkeepers, and clerks.
  • See recommendations for the points your letter should cover in the box below.
  • Complete all required information in the field boxes on the left of your screen. This information will be used by computer to match you with the state legislators who represent your neighborhood, and add your name and address to the bottom of your letter.
  • After you complete the matching information on the left, and after you complete your letter, click on SEND THIS MESSAGE. Your letter will be emailed to your state senator and representative by computer.

If you have questions call Yvonne Rodriquez at 263-5052.
