The short explanation of this alert was:

Last week, the FAA stalled negotiations with our nation's air traffic controllers. A series of aggressive press releases and lobby efforts by the FAA Administrator gives a clear indication that rather than try and reach a voluntary agreement, the FAA has begun their effort to impose a contract rather than use the traditionally accepted practices for fair dispute resolution. Under the FAA approach, they can simply continue to stall the process, even as a federal mediator attempts to facilitate an agreement. However we can restore fairness in the process and ensure the differences in contract negotiations are dealt with in an impartial process, the same kind of process that is available in other federal agencies and private companies.

You can help by asking your elected officials to support the bipartisan legislation to restore a fair process for dispute resolution for FAA employees. S2201 and HR4755 "The FAA Fair Labor Management Dispute Resolution Act" doesn't dictate the outcome of any particular contract negotiation, it simply requires Congress to either approve the FAA proposal or send the matter to an impartial arbitrator. Ask your elected officials to support the fair treatment for America's aviation safety workforce.

Our grassroots web tool now allows you to send a personalized letter to your Senator or Representative. Please consider taking the time to personalize your note with some of your opinions or specific information. In the "personalized information" paragraph (see below), you can include some of the following suggested topics:

·Where do you live? How many years have you lived in your State, City?

·Describe your background with the FAA.

·At which FAA facility do you currently work?

·How do you personally feel about the legislation?

·What role do you believe air traffic control plays?

·Have you ever visited the lawmaker’s office? When did that occur? With whom did you visit?

(Please note: If you do not feel like personalizing your letter, you can still send the template version simply by filling out the required information and submitting.)

Please proof your letter and make sure it is polite and in good taste. A personalized letter will serve as an important reminder about how much Senator Obama’s and Congresswoman Kelly's legislation means to you, and how much it should mean to your elected representative.

Example Letter To Elected Representatives

Subject Line: America’s air traffic controllers need your support

Dear Decision Maker,

[Example of Personal Information Paragraph] My name is Chuck Johnson. I was born in Peoria and have been an air traffic controller in Illinois for 16 years, the last three of which I’ve spent working at Chicago Midway Tower. I recently had the pleasure of visiting with (you or "your staff" or "your staff member, Wendy Smith") about an issue that is very important to me and the "X number of" controllers in Illinois.
