Tell Congress to Stop Child Labor in Uzbekistan

During this back-to-school season, the children of Uzbekistan are being sent into the fields and forced by the government to pick cotton. Please contact your senators and tell them that this practice is morally unacceptable and that they must not stand silently by as Uzbek children are forced back into the fields. Dear [ Decision Maker ],

As our children return to school, the government of Uzbekistan is sending hundreds of thousands of children and their teachers into the fields to harvest cotton to meet state imposed quotas. Uzbekistan is one of the worst examples of state-sanctioned child labor in the world. Children and their teachers belong in classrooms, not the fields.

I urge you to join Senator Harkin in condemning this practice by becoming a cosponsor of S. Res. 99.

The Government of Uzbekistan needs to be held to account for its practices. It must know that it cannot get away with agreeing to international human rights decrees that prohibit the practice of forced child labor and turn around and force children and teachers into the fields.

Co-sponsor Senator Harkin's resolution and join the broad coalition of business, labor and international human rights organizations who refuse to stand by silently as children are sent into the field year after year.
