The short explanation of this alert was:

University of California Irvine just gave layoff notices to 46 families that are some of the lowest paid workers at the University, sending them back to poverty.

By reducing maintenance and groundskeeping services that affect student health and safety, UC Excutives are putting students and staff in jeopardy.

Clearly the University has the resources to continue these services without compromising student health and safety, and without sending families into poverty.

AFSCME has presented UC with a list of budget alternatives which do not compromise the University's ability to carry out its mission.
