We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit International Labor Rights Forum.

The short explanation of this alert was:

Federal, state and local tax dollars are being used to buy products made in sweatshops, according to a new report released on Tax Day 2009 by SweatFree Communities. Findings include severe violations of labor law and human rights in nearly all of the eight factories investigated.

SweatFree Communities is asking supporters to contact their Governors to join the Sweatfree Purchasing Consortium -- to support workers' rights and level the playing field for ethical business.

As a resident of Maine or Pennsylvania, your governor and state officials have already taken action to join the Sweatfree Purchasing Consortium. But for the Consortium to really make a difference for workers, we need many more states to join.

(If our database is out-of-date and you actually live in a different state, then click here to ask your Governor to join the Consortium.)
