Our city depends on the museum guards to protect some of our most priceless cultural treasures. Despite this, the guards at the Philadelphia Museum of Art earn poverty wages, often can't access the expensive health care provided by their employer and have few if any paid sick-days. They want to change this. You can help.
Welcome to Philadelphia! As tax payer or museum member I support the guards at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in their efforts to win fair wages and a just workplace by forming their own, independent, labor union. AlliedBarton has so far refused to meet with them despite the fact that they won their election last October.
The Museum is a valued part of our city and one of our most treasured landmarks. While in many ways it is a symbol of civic pride, recent media reports that the security guards receive poverty wages damages the image of our city.
Philadelphia believes in the dignity of its workers, and we regret that the Museum currently fails to reflect this core value. The role that the security officer play at the Museum is vital to the safety of the art and the patrons.
I urge you to recognize their collective voice by telling your sub-contractor to stop its anti-union, stalling campaign against the Philadelphia Security Officers Union. AlliedBarton needs to end its foot-dragging and join the guards in making improvements today.
Thank you for your time and consideration
With hope for a better future,
