Protect Workers' Rights - Send a Letter Today!

Times are hard for California’s working families. We are entering a recession, marked by an unprecedented foreclosure freefall and unemployment at a 12-year high.  As we work to revive our economy, we must do all we can to protect worker’s rights and preserve good jobs.

One of the greatest threats to workers rights is the increasing misclassification of workers as independent contractors. We must find effective ways to crack down on misclassification to protect workers and responsible employers. Misclassification destroys good jobs, erodes working conditions, and costs the state millions.

Misclassification schemes like we see at the ports with the truck drivers and throughout the courier industry were not the creations of employers alone. Instead, outside consultants designed these schemes as clever ways for employers to avoid their obligations and erase worker rights and protections.

SB 1583 (Corbett) targets third-party consultants who promote misclassification schemes to employers.  More and more, these consultants are acting like unionbusting consultants, showing employers how to skirt the law and undermine workers rights.  SB 1583 holds consultants liable when they knowingly advise employers to misclassify workers.

Please send a letter to the Governor today, and ask him to sign this important bill into law.
