Capital District Area Labor Federation Action Alert!
ATU Action

Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local #1321 working for CDTA have been working without a contract since June 16, 2005. In early December CDTA proposed a package that the members voted down 2 to 1. In February 2006 CDTA made an offer turning the usual 4 year contract into a 5 year deal. Management offered union members 0% raise from 6/16/05-4/1/06, 3% in 2006 and in 2007 and 2.75% in 2008 and in 2009 while proposing to give themselves up to 16% raises in 2006 alone.

Please take a moment now to send a letter to your NYS legislators, asking them to take action by calling CDTA's management to task for their spending practices, and their ridiculous position at the bargaining table.

Subject: Tell CDTA Management to Be Fair!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

The Amalgamated Transit Union Local #1321 represents the transit workers at the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) in Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and Saratoga Counties. CDTA is a public Authority, the Governor of New York State appoints representatives to serve on the CDTA Board of Directors from each of the four counties that CDTA covers. Along with Federal Funding, the State of New York provides a substantial subsidy for CDTA's operational budget.

As a New York State Legislator, you have the authority to question CDTA's position on financial issues. Currently the union is in negotiations with CDTA, attempting to work out a fair contract for their members. ATU #1321 members working for CDTA have been working without a contract since June 16, 2005. In early December CDTA proposed a package that the members voted down 2 to 1. In February 2006, CDTA made an offer turning the usual 4 year contract into a 5 year deal. In addition to this, management is also proposing a massive increase in ATU retirees' out of pocket health costs.

I am asking for any assistance you as a representative from one of the four impacted counties can provide to the working and retired members of ATU #1321. The next CDTA Board meeting will be held on Wednesday April 26 at 4:45 PM, we would greatly appreciate your call to Executive Director Stephen Bland at 518-437-8310 prior to that meeting.

If you have any questions or require additional information to make an informed decision, contact ATU #1321 President/Business Agent Steven M. Green at 518-472-1230. Thank you for your time, consideration and support.

Sincerely,
