National Week of Action for Immigrant Rights
National Week of Action for Immigrant Rights
Bills regarding Immigration Reform have been introduced in the U.S. Senate, including McCain-Kennedy Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act (S 1033). Senator Arlen Specter has introduced his own bill, a combination of Sensenbrenner and other bills, for debate in the Senate.
What would Sen. Specter’s bill do:
- Make criminals of priests, domestic violence counselors and others who provide aid to immigrants in need.
- Ties legal status of immigrants workers to employer instead of type of work. This leaves the door wide open for employer abuse through fear or intimidation.
- Does not provide a path to citizenship for workers or their families.
- Denies protections for refugees
The McCain Kennedy Bill is the most viable means for addressing the key issues of immigration reform. It provides for a path to citizenship, family reunifications, full human, civil, and working rights for immigrants.
Take Action Now and send your Senator a letter telling him to support the McCain Kennedy plan for comprehensive immigration reform.

Subject: S 1033 - McCain-Kennedy Immigration Bill
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to strongly encourage you to reject enforcement only immigration reform proposals, in favor of reforms that will comprehensively fix our broken immigration system.
The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act (S.1033), introduced by Senator McCain and Senator Kennedy provides a comprehensive approach to reform our broken immigration system.
The bill provides responsive legal solutions for immigrant workers and those seeking to be with family. It provides strengthened enforcement and expanded legal channels for immigrants.
The bill does not offer amnesty to illegal immigrants, it offers an opportunity for those who have been hiding to earn a way to remain in the US legally.
I believe the American people need to be better informed about the current problems with our immigration system and about the contributions immigrants make to our economy.
I am asking you to be a leader in this debate an support the reforms in the McCain-Kennedy bill. Your leadership can help keep our nation proud of our history as a nation of immigrants.
Thank you for your consideration,
Sincerely,
