support charter school teachers

Help Charters School Teacher Get Union Recognition, Tell Ron Huberman to Uphold Illinois law!

Charter teachers at three Chicago International Charter Schools/Civitas have voted by 75 percent to unionize under Illinois law. The Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board has recognized this, and certified that these publicly funded schools must negotiate with the teachers.

But school executives want to overturn the ruling, and are asking the National Labor Relations Board to order an election instead -- the kind of "secret ballot election" that allows bosses to intimidate and threaten employees, and the exact reason we need the Employee Free Choice Act.
(see www.jwj.org/freechoice)

CPS CEO Ron Huberman won't take a clear stand and is bowing to pressure from the bosses. Please contact him and demand that he order CICS/Civitas to honor the teachers' wishes and begin bargaining right away. Don't let these charter school use our public funds to block teachers from their human right to organize.
