Subject: Override Rell's Veto of Correctional Employee Health & Safety Bill
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Please support overriding Governor Rell's veto of House Bill 6684, An Act Establishing A Correctional Staff Health and Safety Subcommittee Of The Criminal Justice Policy Advisory Commission. This bill, which has virtually no cost, creates a committee to study and devise a strategy to reduce assaults and injuries to state correctional officers and employees. This bill would actually help to reduce workers compensation costs to the state budget. Governor Rell said she vetoed it because she is not represented on the committee. Yet, Governor Rell has three direct appointees serving on this committee through her Commissioners of Corrections, Public Safety, and Mental Health and Addiction Services.
Ironically, Governor Rell's veto came a few days after a serious assault upon a corrections officer at the Northern high security correctional facility. Please let me know if you will urge your caucus leadership to support this veto override attempt and if you will vote to support this veto override.
Sincerely,
