Union Plus Accomplishments

1986 was a memorable year: Nintendo video games were introduced into the United States; Oprah Winfrey went national with her show; the Red Sox lost the World Series to the Mets after Billy Buckner let an easy grounder go through his legs; and "We Are the World" was the record of the year.

There was another event that turned out to be of much greater significance to working families: the first Union Plus Credit Cards were issued in August 1986.

Since 1986, Union Plus benefits have:

Provided more than 3 million members with a money-saving credit card
Helped 700,000 members talk to a lawyer for free and saved them more than $40 million in legal fees
Helped 58,000 union families buy a home and save $40 million in mortgage fees
Provided more than $3 million in assistance to help members having financial hardship make their union mortgage payments
Granted more the $2.2 million in scholarships to help union members and their children attain a higher education
Helped 800 cardholders impacted by Hurricane Katrina with $400,000 in disaster assistance
Saved members money on everything from flowers to home heating oil.
