New York Times Latest to Support Employee Free Choice Act

by James Parks, Mar 6, 2007

Employee Free Choice Act -- AFL-CIOIn today’s New York Times, the lead editorial lays out the case for the Employee Free Choice Act and urges President Bush to push for its approval and sign it.

The editorial points out that the bill, which levels the playing field when workers want to form a union, would go a long way toward making our economy more equitable.

Labor unions have a role to play in helping to fix today’s economic ills—most  notably, worsening income inequality, a problem that’s caused in part by unions’ decline and the workers’ resulting lack of bargaining power. What’s needed is a congressional drive to help Mr. Bush see this obvious connection. The Senate should take up the House bill promptly and end it to the president for his signature.
