Support the Governor's Funding Campaign

We have resolved our issues witht the governor's funding bill.  Please send your letter now!

In his budget address delivered to the Illinois General Assembly on March 7, Gov. Rod Blagojevich laid out an ambitious agenda to set Illinois’ fiscal house in order. The Blagojevich budget proposal would reverse decades of pension underfunding and, for the first time, charts a course for long-term revenue for public education from Pre-K to 16 that significantly boosts spending in critical areas. It reduces property taxes. What the governor is proposing is a goal that the CTU has sought for more than a quarter-century.

Subject: Support the Governor's Budget

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

In 2007, Illinois elected leaders have an opportunity to significantly change major state policies regarding education funding and pension security. I urge you to support Governor Blagojevich's plan that would provide desperately needed funding for our schools and security for our public pension systems.

The governor's plan charts a course for long-term investment in public education - Pre-K to 16 - that significantly boosts spending in critical areas.

New revenue would mean smaller class sizes, updated textbooks and equipment, the ability to attract and retain top faculty, and much more.

Our students can't afford to wait any longer. This must be the year that you, your colleagues in the General Assembly and the governor work together to enact legislation that provides long-term funding for education and pension funding stability.

Please don't adjourn this session without addressing these important issues.

Sincerely,

Background Information

We must be successful in aquiring additional school funding during this legislative session.  Next year is an election year for the legislature and candidates will not want to pass bills that give more tax money to schools.
