Telecommunications Access Line and Merger Protection NOW!

The sell off of Verizon landlines across the country in rural areas is a cause for grave concern for Telecom Consumers and Workers.  Case in point, FairPoint Communications, a small telecommunications company has purchased 1.5 million access lines from Verizon in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.  Verizon attempted a upstate N.Y sell off of landlines like this in 2004 and was halted as a result of a CWA campaign to Stop the Upstate Sale. But that didn't work in New England and may not work in New York again.

To protect NY Telecom Consumers and Workers we need a law that will only allow a sale if it is in the best intrests of Workers and Consumers.  To get this we need to demand that our NYS Senators support S.7263.  Demand  support for Consumers and Workers by joining your family and friends and signing the E-Petition to support S.7263.

Subject: Support S.7263

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

We, the undersigned, urge all NYS Senators to co-sponsor S.7263 the Workers and Consumers Protection in Event of a Sale of Telephone Access Lines Memorandum of Support.

Today telecommunications giants are conducting mergers and sell offs across the country of landlines in rural areas. Case in point, FairPoint Communications, a small telecommunications company is presently conducting a purchase of 1.5 million access lines from Verizon in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Any possible sale like this in NY must be approached cautiously with Consumers and Workers in mind.

To accomplish this Consumers and Workers need the protections that Senator Nozzolio's (R - Seneca Falls) bill S.7263 the Workers and Consumers Protection in Event of a Sale of Telephone Access Lines Memorandum of Support will provide.

Consumers protections and Telecom Workers jobs depend on this bill and our votes at the polls will depend on the NYS Senators co-sponsoring and passing of this bill.

Sincerely,
