Union Busting at Time Warner
CWA Local 1126 has 35 members who are technicians at Time Warner Cable. They are the only unionized Time Warner technicians in New York State outside of New York City. Time Warner has been doing everything they can to break them. They have taken away their pensions, 401k eligibility, and are cutting wages and health benefits. These workers have been fighting for a decent contract for nearly four years, including the past 18 months when Time Warner took over the Utica franchise as part of the Adelphia bankruptcy settlement.
Our members have hung tough, beating a decertification drive by an overwhelming margin on September 5th. The time has come for us to join in the fight. We are asking you to follow up with the State Senators and Assembly members to make sure they act on the behalf of our brothers and sisters in Utica. Thank you.

Subject: Time Warner Employees Need Your Help
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to request your support of 35 members of the Communications Workers of America who have been struggling for well over a year to secure basic labor rights in a contract with the cable giant Time Warner in Utica, New York.
These CWA members are working without a contract because the company is trying to break the union while refusing to bargain fairly. These workers have had a pension and 401(k) taken away from them, even though non-union workers in ALL other Time Warner Cable units have such benefits. Time Warner has eliminated a wage progression scale, overtime pay, and health benefits for the unionized workforce.
Time Warner executives are attempting to bust the union. While the unionized workforce overwhelmingly rejected union-busting efforts during a decertification vote in September. The contract struggle continues and these CWA members are still left without the protection of basic labor rights.
Time Warner's profitability is not an issue; the company has generated nearly $11 billion in profit. In the Utica area alone, Time Warner raised rates by more than $6 million this year. These members are the only unionized workers in Time Warner Cable in Upstate New York.
We need your help in persuading Time Warner management to bargain with the union in good faith to reach a contract settlement. Please consider sending a letter to Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons urging him to direct his staff to negotiate a fair and just contract with CWA. Please fax a copy of any letter you send to Time Warner to CWA District 1 c/o Pete Sikora at 212-425-2947.
It is critical that Time Warner understands that even though this is a small group, CWA and its allies intend to stand with these workers until they receive a fair contract. Your support for these workers is therefore vitally important and we thank you in advance for your help.
