CWA Committee Rejects Management's Inadequate Offer

In negotiations earlier today, our CWA bargaining committee advised management that we rejected their offer as inadequate and retrogressive. Our committee advised management that they still had not adequately addressed the key issues that our members identified in their bargaining surveys. In case management has forgotten (yes, we know that you are reading our website), let us remind you of what those key issues are:

1. Improved Standard of Living. This includes wages, upgrades, improvements of wage related items, fairness for wage rates within the North Central contract.

2. Employment Security. This includes the issues of layoffs, downgrades, termination allowance, jurisdiction and bumping. We, also, are presenting proposals to assure that the jobs of the future are union jobs.

3. Improved Benefits. This includes improvements to savings plans, pensions and health care for both active and retired employees.

4. Justice on the Job. This includes issues like: working conditions, time off/vacations, abuse of overtime and other issues.

We have only a few days left to get this done before the deadline of midnight Saturday....management needs to get serious....fast!

Locals across the region took our message to the streets today. We'll have more on that in the next report. Meanwhile, Locals continue to plan more mobilization activities. Contact your Local for details.

The next report will be on Friday, January 28, 2005, or sooner should developments warrant.
