Dear CWA NY Unity@Verizon Member,
Great news! We just cleared our
first major hurdle in bringing high speed internet to all New
Yorkers.
On Wednesday, the Corporations, Authorities and
Commission Committee voted on the Telecommunications Reform Act,
and the bill passed in committee by a vote of 18 to
4! This is a tremendous victory for all of us who
understand the importance of bringing high speed
internet to our schools, hospitals, businesses and
homes.
This bill will help bring high speed internet to
all New Yorkers, especially those in underserved rural and
lower-income areas. It would break the cable monopoly, improving
service and pricing for all of us by fostering competition
between cable and internet providers.
Now we are facing
an uphill battle on the assembly floor and I need your help to
make sure that this bill gets passed.
Your legislator is already a co-sponsor of the
Telecommunications Reform Act. Click below to urge
him or her to make sure this bill gets passed.

This is a
terrific opportunity for New York to lead the nation in closing
the digital divide. Already this bill has received tremendous
support from community and consumer groups throughout the state,
and from New Yorkers like you and your legislator.
Will you help us take the next step and urge your legislator
to lead the charge to pass the Telecommunicationsm Reform
Act?

Over the next few weeks,
watch for more emails from the SpeedMatters.org campaign with
more ways you can be involved in the fight to bring high speed
internet to all New Yorkers.
Thanks for your help.
