Subject: J-U-S-T-I-C-E NOW at BSU!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to protest the dismissal of Juan Glover, the president of AFSCME's local union at Bowie State University, an action clearly intended to intimidate the thousands of university clerical and service workers now organizing for a voice at work.

As a citizen and taxpayer, I urge the Maryland Board of Regents to investigate fully before renewing the contract of Dr. Calvin Lowe as BSU president. There is evidence of widespread mismanagement at the campus including layoffs affecting vital programs, refusal to provide information, failure to meet with the union and retaliation against staff and students who question administration actions

If we have learned anything from the current scandals surrounding Enron, WorldCom and a dozen other large organizations, it is that chief executives such as President Lowe must be held accountable for their actions. Until the scandal at Bowie State University is fully investigated, I strongly urge the Board of Regents to demand the administration overturn the layoff of union president Juan Glover and meet with the union to address these critical issues as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Background Information

When workers at Bowie State University (BSU) in Bowie, MD began speaking out on the job, the university retaliated by dismissing AFSCME Local 1297 President Juan Glover. Over 5,000 university clerical and service workers on a dozen campuses including BSU have organized for a voice at work since November 2001. With evidence of widespread mismanagement at BSU, including layoffs affecting vital programs, refusal to provide information and retaliation against students and staff who question administration actions, it's time to demand accountability. Please take a moment to write now for justice at BSU; it's as easy as A-B-C!
