Today we met with Northwest representatives, Senior Vice
President of Inflight Services Julie Showers and the Director of
Flight Attendant Scheduling Brian Moreau, for a briefing.
Our meeting was called to discuss the shifting of
the Northwest and Delta fleets, and the impact on
flight attendant schedules. Management said this
"cross fleeting" would involve the swapping of
aircraft on Northwest and Delta routes. We understand that
many flight attendants are concerned about these plans and would
like to know the details, however no firm decisions have been
made yet. We discussed the current potential marketing
areas for this type of aircraft swap, the potential
satellite bases that could occur due to this cross
fleeting, as well as training schedules and
logistics. As we are apprised of specific decisions
and details about these plans, we will inform all flight
attendants.
In further merger news, the Air Line Pilots
Association filed an application to the National Mediation Board
for a determination of a single transportation system (Section
19, NMB Representational Manual), and the subsequent
representation dispute and investigation that would
follow. In ALPA's joint collective bargaining agreement
which went into effect on October 30th, ALPA agreed to file
their Single Carrier application for a finding of a single
transportation system "at the earliest practicable time"
after the closing of the merger transaction. In their
application, ALPA enumerates why they believe the
factors involved in determining a single carrier have been
met.
AFA Legal is coordinating their efforts with your elected
representatives and our Delta colleagues, regarding what will be
the best course of action for flight attendants at this
time. Obviously, management is pushing the pace of this
merger to the limit.
We urge you to stay informed, and stay tuned to
the MEC Hotline/eNews, and visit our websites
www.nwaafa.org
and
www.deltaafa.org for further
developments. If you have not contacted the campaign to
volunteer, we ask that you join us now. For a few minutes
a day, by calling 10 friends or passing out information while
you are out flying, you could be the difference that boosts our
combined group to the voter turnout that we need. If
we can keep the nearly 40% voter turnout achieved in May at
Delta, combined with a high percentage of voters at Northwest,
we will win this election. Then, the joint
contract negotiations can begin for our combined group.
All members must be engaged in this effort to preserve our
right to a union contract at the new Delta - Together We
Can!
