March 30, 2009, a truly historic day for the flight attendants of the New Delta Air Lines.  Today, over 7,000 pre-merger Northwest flight attendants wear the uniform already worn by our sisters and brothers at Delta.  Close to 21,000 aviation professionals now share one more thing in common at the world's largest airline.  Today, thousands of flight attendants will symbolically take their union insignia off one lapel, and proudly pin it on another.   The REAL milestone on Monday won't be just a uniform and union pin, but the flight attendant wearing that uniform working with a contract.

While flight attendants from Northwest and Delta have every right to be thrilled at today's change, we ask you to take a moment to honestly consider the benefits of the collective strength of our combined groups.

To be sure, 21,000 flight attendants - nearly 30% of Delta's total workforce - will be an integral part of the World Class Carrier.  Wearing those three tiny letters on your uniform symbolizes that we are working together towards common goals:  Protecting our career, and not just maintaining but bettering our lives through collective bargaining.

The seemingly minor adornment on our uniform shows that the thousands of Delta flight attendants are committed to having their place at the table.  It means that regardless of leadership changes that will happen, our jointly negotiated, World Class Contract will not change until it is time to meet at the table once again.  It means working with the company to ensure the New Delta will thrive.

Wear your uniforms and your union pin with pride.  Our combined group will be historic . . .
