Help Expand Preschool in California

Recently your state senator, Don Perata, revoked his previous endorsement of the Preschool for All Initiative (Proposition 82).  You know how important the issue of early childhood education is. The foundations of learning at this stage of a child’s development will lead to better reading skills, greater success in K-12, and a lower chance of being placed in a special education program.

Extending these opportunities to everyone in the state is the goal behind Proposition 82. If passed in June, Proposition 82 will provide every four-year-old in California with the opportunity to attend a quality preschool program. This program would help millions of children start down the path of an improved overall educational experience.

A coalition of business, education, labor and early childhood leaders have already lined up in support of Proposition 82 – but we still need your help. Recently Don Perata, revoked his previous endorsement of the Preschool for All Initiative, and is encouraging other senators to do the same. We need your help to encourage Senator Perata to stop actively organizing Proposition 82!

Send a letter today to Senator Perata. It will only take a minute and you will be making a big difference in expanding early childhood education across California.

Subject: Protect Preschool

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to urge you to reconsider your opposition to Proposition 82, the Preschool for All Initiative. Your original support of this initiative was the correct position.

As a supporter of early childhood education, I know how important the early years are for children's cognitive, social and emotional development. Children with high-quality preschool experiences are more likely to succeed in school and beyond. Research has shown that children who attend quality preschool are more likely to become good readers in elementary school, less likely to be placed in special education or held back a grade, and are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college.

Your opposition to the Preschool for All Initiative could put quality early childhood education out of reach for millions of California children. And that is something that we will all pay the price for in the future.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this issue.

Sincerely,
