Montgomery County Approves $56,000 for Early Childhood Scholarships

Good news! Funding for Montgomery County’s Child Care Scholarship Program has been reinstated in the county budget.  Fifty-six thousand dollars was allocated by the Montgomery County Council to support early childhood educators attain professional development.

This funding is a small step, but an important one nonetheless, to help early childhood professionals obtain advanced skills and additional education in their fight for rights, raises and respect.  These funds will also help to reverse the extremely high turnover high rate amongst workers in the early childhood industry. Our early childhood teachers  -- and the children they serve  -- will all benefit from this appropriation.

Funding will be available for the Fall 2006 semester.  Contact Maria Rosario at 240-777-1716 for information on how to apply.

Please take a minute to thank your council member for this funding.

Subject: Thank you for Allocating $56,000 for Early Childhood Scholarships

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to thank the Montgomery County Council for recently approving $56,000 for funding early childhood scholarships.

Early childhood educators face a never-ending battle for rights, raises, and respect. The industry is plagued by high turnover and limited educational opportunities. We hope the appropriated funds for the scholarships will start to reverse these trends in Montgomery County.

These funds, while modest, send an important message to those of us in the early childhood education community - that our elected officials are listening to our concerns and are taking steps to address the issues that affect our industry.

Thank you again for you support of the early childhood education community.

Sincerely,
