Tell Congress to Help Protect Our Jobs

Recently, our CEO, Timothy E. Hoeksema, had the gall to notify the employees that he was "pleased" to announce an agreement to shift flying on existing Midwest routes to Republic Airlines, resulting in further job reductions.  Once this agreement is implemented, we will be one quarter our original size. Tell Me More

Tell Congress to send an unequivocal message to Midwest management and Seabury Group that they cannot continue to outsource our jobs and extort concessions from us.

Subject: Tell Midwest Management to Stop Outsourcing Our Jobs

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am a proud Midwest Airlines flight attendant and a member of the Association of Flight Attendants - CWA. We pride ourselves on being the "best care in the air." And as you well know, our first and primary purpose onboard the aircraft is the safety of the traveling public. We hope that you have been able to experience that professional, award winning service first hand.

Unfortunately, we find ourselves locked in a bitter struggle with management over their plan to extort drastic and devastating pay and work rule changes while simultaneously eliminating and outsourcing our jobs. We recognize the difficult situation that our company is in and attempted to bargain in good faith to find a way out of these difficult times. Instead, the company hired an expensive consulting firm, Seabury Group, who refused to entertain our counterproposals -including options that have been offered to non-union work groups.

Most recently, our CEO, Timothy E. Hoeksema, had the gall to notify the employees that he was "pleased" to announce an agreement to shift flying on existing Midwest routes to Republic Airlines, resulting in further job reductions. Once this agreement is implemented, we will be one quarter our original size. In communications with our union - the Association of Flight Attendants - management has told us that in order to fly those routes again in the future, and bring those jobs back to Midwest flight attendants, we will have to agree to the drastic concessions demanded in July. These concessions would force on us drastic wage reductions and have us be paid less than our regional, and non-union, partner SkyWest. This is extortion and union busting, plain and simple.

As one of our elected Wisconsin officials, we need your help. We need you to send an unequivocal message to Midwest management and Seabury Group that they cannot continue to outsource our jobs and extort concessions from us. Tell them that the citizens of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin deserve better than the stale "ownership" principles being practiced at Midwest Airlines.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in our struggle.

Sincerely,
