Greetings,
AFA Files for
Election
AFA Here We
Come!
We must be breaking a record
somewhere. In just a few weeks we managed to gather more
than enough cards to file for an election with the National
Mediation Board (NMB).
The timeline for the election
will be determined by the NMB.
Meanwhile, AFA Authorization
Card collection will continue. As usual, there is one
attached to this newsletter. If you have not already done
so, please sign a card and send it in ASAP.
AFA Meets with Leadership
Council
Yesterday, AFA met with
representatives of the Frontier Flight Attendant Leadership
Council. The meeting was very productive.
Representing AFA at the meeting was Frontier Flight Attendant
Erika Schweitzer, AFA MEC President at Midwest Airlines Toni
Higgins, and AFA Senior Staff Negotiator Beth
DeProspero.
AFA was very pleased to be given
the opportunity to meet with the council and to learn more about
it and gather their opinion of the situation Frontier is now
in. We believe both sides left the meeting with a much
better understanding of one another and a good working
relationship.
Often, members of the leadership
council at an unrepresented airline are those who step forward
to become AFA leaders once the representation election is
over. In fact, Toni Higgins was a member of the Midwest
Airlines council prior to the AFA election there in
1999.
The Leadership Council relayed
a message of support to the Midwest flight attendants, a message
the flight attendants at Midwest will be happy to receive.
Now that Frontier is going to MKE it is important for everyone
to be sensitive to the fact that the Midwest flight attendants
are losing their jobs, at least for the time being, because of
RJET management's decision to outsource their flying to
RJET.
As a group, the Leadership Council
intends to remain neutral during the representation
election. However, as individual flight attendants, each
of them has an opinion and is free to share that
opinion if he/she wishes to do so.
AFA would like to thank the
Leadership Council for inviting us to meet with them and look
forward to strengthening our relationship in the future.
Our Work Has Just
Begun
Sure, the cards have been
filed. But we still have a lot of work ahead of us.
Card collection will continue and we will begin preparing
for the Get Out The Vote (GOTV) phase of the election.
Thank you for your amazing work
with the card collection. Together, we can win this
election and ensure that the Frontier Flight
Attendants will have a choice in their union.
