Pay Bargaining Update

The management bargaining committee contacted the union yesterday afternoon and indicated that the management committee would be prepared to resume negotiations today, Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 3 PM.  The union agreed to this proposed meeting day and time.

On Friday evening, February 1 the union agreed to adjourn negotiations at the management committee's request, to give the management committee time to fully evaluate the union's position on remaining unresolved issues, brief the GAO Executive Committee, and respond to the union's proposal.

The union will continue to update the bargaining unit at the end of each day of bargaining until agreement is reached.  If the union bargaining committee achieves an agreement with management, the agreement will be distributed to the entire bargaining unit for a ratification vote.  Each member of the bargaining unit will be given the opportunity to vote on whether to accept or reject the agreement reached by the union committee. Ratification requires that a simple majority of those voting cast their ballots in favor of accepting the agreement.
