Positions Available on Membership and Communications Committees

Dear GAO Bargaining Unit Colleagues:

Your Union's Interim Council (IC) is establishing two new committees and would like your help! To join, contact the relevant coordinator with a brief statement of interest and qualifications by 8 p.m. EDT, Monday, March 24, 2008.

(1) The Membership Committee seeks 5 or more individuals who are not members of the Interim Council (IC) to help promote the benefits of union membership and recruit members. (Four IC members will also be on the committee.) This is an opportunity for bargaining unit members to help the IC build a strong, effective union that represents all of GAO's Band I and Band II employees.

Membership Committee Contact:
Kristi Karls, karlsk@gao.gov, 202-512-9191

2) The new Communication Committee seeks 3 non- IC members (in addition to 6 members who are from the IC) to convey news and information about the Union through the regular newsletter (the Communiqué), periodic e-mail bulletins, and the Web site. This is an opportunity to write articles, work closely with other Union committees and help develop a Union communication strategy.

Communication Committee Contact:
Steve Berke, berkes@gao.gov, 202-512-8779

Note: You also are welcome to volunteer to assist either of these committees, without becoming a member (e.g, by recruiting members or providing editorial services). Just let us know.

If there are more volunteers than positions available the IC will hold elections, the details of which will be made available at a later date.

We look forward to hearing from many of you. Thanks!

- Kristi Karls, FMA IC representative and
Steve Berke, SI, IC representative
