Constitution Listening Sessions Continue this Week

The Constitution Committee is using your listening session comments and other feedback to draft the Union Constitution.  An up-or-down vote will be held to approve the Constitution, which is tentatively planned to begin September 19, 2008 (happy Union ratification anniversary!).  The time to provide detailed feedback ends when the Constitution draft is completed before the vote.  To provide your feedback, you can

(1) attend one of the two remaining listening sessions:

  • Dallas: Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. (Central, noon Eastern), and
  • Los Angeles and San Francisco: Thursday, Sept. 4, at noon (Pacific, 3 p.m. Eastern).

(2) contact your Union representative, or

(3) send an e-mail to the Chair of the Constitution Committee, Stephen Ulrich (ulrichs@gao.gov).

Additional information can be found on our website at http://www.gaoanalysts.org/HTML_Pages/Constitution_Listening_Revised.htm.

Two Vacancies on the Interim Council Filled and Two Vacancies Remain

We are pleased to announce that we have two new Interim Council members.  Nancy Fasciano (fascianon@gao.gov) is the new representative of the Health Care team and John C. Bumgarner (bumgarnerj@gao.gov) is a new PDP representative.   We still have two other vacancies, one for the Hispanic Diversity representative and another for the HQ Staff Office Analysts representative.

An application for the Hispanic Diversity Representative has been submitted.  According to the Interim Council’s election rules, if we do not receive any further applications for this position by 8 p.m. eastern time September 9, the current applicant will be seated as the new Hispanic Diversity representative.  Anyone interested in applying for either of these positions should notify Elections Committee Chair Todd Anderson (andersontd@gao.gov).

Nominations Sought for Finance Committee

The Interim Council is still seeking volunteers for the Finance Committee.  The committee’s primary responsibilities will include monitoring the union’s finances, preparing annual budgets, and providing reports to the Interim Council and/or its successor, the Assembly.  Ideally, we would like the committee to have nine members, five who are members of the Interim Council (IC) and four Bargaining Unit (BU) Members.  Treasurer Kristi Karls will fill one of the IC positions, and two BU members have volunteered, so we still need to fill the remaining four IC positions and two BU positions.  If more members apply for either the IC or BU positions than what remain open, the IC will vote to select members.

If you are interested in serving on the committee, please send an e-mail to Elections Committee Chair Todd Anderson (andersontd@gao.gov) indicating that you are nominating yourself for a position on the committee. You may also include a statement about why you are seeking the position, but it is not required.  If you have any questions about the committee, please contact Kristi Karls (karlsk@gao.gov).

Please Give Us Your Feedback and Contributions

The Communications Committee would like your feedback regarding articles you'd like to see, questions you'd like answered, or any other suggestions!  Please send your feedback to Charlie Willson (willsonc@gao.gov).  If you would like the next Communiqué to include a Union-related announcement or the time and place of a Union-related meeting, please forward the information to Lise Levie (leviel@gao.gov) by 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, September 4, to be considered for next week's Communiqué.

Get Active Action Center - Give the IFPTE Feedback

As we get more volunteers, we have better ideas. To assist Analysts in advancing their rights and representation within GAO, IFPTE has developed an advocacy tool to allow Analysts to provide feedback to the Union. GAO Analysts are encouraged to sign up for the Action Center if they haven’t already done so.
