A Voice for Workers over 40

Earlier this year, management and the Union agreed on management’s proposal to create a GAO Diversity Committee. At the request of the Union, the committee includes representation for employees age 40 or older, who are a protected by law from discrimination, but are not represented by an established employee group. While many in the bargaining unit have expressed concerns that older workers face barriers and disparate treatment in the workplace, this is the first time older workers have had a representative. As such, Nancy Zearfoss (zearfossn@gao.gov; HQ 2Q24) is soliciting information from older workers about your concerns, including any experiences you’ve had at GAO with regard to age discrimination, particularly in relation to performance appraisals and pay increases; or about actions that could be taken by GAO’s management or the Union to address work issues related to age.

Membership Drive Underway! Brownbag Information Sessions Continue This Week

The Union membership drive continues this week! To sign up, please visit the web site at: http://www.gaoanalysts.org/HTML_Pages/Membership.htm. If you signed a card to have a vote on a Union, you still must sign up now to join the Union officially. After the bargaining unit ratifies our Union’s Constitution, only Union members will be able to vote to ratify Union matters and run for representative office.

Also, you are invited by the Membership Committee to attend a Q&A session on membership at one of the following times. Field office staff may participate in any of the sessions by calling 1-866-285-7778 (Passcode 9164844).

- October 7, 2008 at 12:00 to 1:00 pm ET - HQ Room 5T63

Get Active Action Center - Give the IFPTE Feedback

As we get more volunteers, we have better ideas. To assist Analysts in advancing their rights and representation within GAO, IFPTE has developed an advocacy tool to allow Analysts to provide feedback to the Union. GAO Analysts are encouraged to sign up for the Action Center if they haven’t already done so.
