The Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO was formed in June, 2001 as part of the New Alliance -- an initiative to revitalize state and local union movements so that we can shape the future of our communities.
Working with our partner Central Labor Councils and Affiliate Unions our activities include:
- Promoting and assisting organizing by supporting the organizing efforts of affiliate unions;
- Educating the community and our elected officials about the importance of VOICE@WORK;
- Engaging in political action by increasing election day turnout and voter registration;
- Organizing member-to-member political campaigns and conducting worksite leaflets;
- Helping Union Members run for office and electing advocates for Working Families;
- Holding endorsed candidates accountable for their record on Working Family issues.
- Mobilizing our membership through Street Heat, a rapid response labor activist committee to support labor and community struggles;
- Building lasting alliances with community partners that support our goal of building a voice for working families on the job, in politics, in the global economy and in communities; and
- Demanding diversity at every level of the labor movement by fostering and supporting AFL-CIO constituency chapters, providing training and education for the next generation of leadership, and reaching out to workers in the new economy.
