4 things the Senate needs to do to make health
care affordable
1. Make health care affordable
at work
Require all but the smallest
employers to help pay for their employees’ health
coverage.
Ø The Senate should adopt the HELP
Committee’s requirements that employers who have 25 or
more employees pay for a reasonable share of their
employee’s health coverage.
Ø The Senate Finance bill let’s
employer’s off the hook and shifts the cost to workers and
taxpayers.
2. Make health care affordable
for those not at work
Be
sure that people who don’t get health coverage at work can
afford their premiums and have reasonable out-of-pocket
costs.
Ø The Senate should adopt the
affordability credits in the HELP
bill.
Ø The Senate Finance bill will cost
the typical family $3,900 a year in higher health care costs,
much more than families can afford.
3. Give us the choice of a
public health insurance option
We
need a public health insurance option to compete with private
health insurance and force them to
jk
Ø The Senate HELP bill gives people
the choice of a public option, so we are not left at the mercy
of the high prices and bad practices of private insurance
companies.
Ø The Senate Finance bill forces us to
buy coverage from private insurance
companies.
4. Don’t tax health our
health coverage
There’s a better way to pay for health care
reform than taxing health care benefits. Taxing benefits will
raise premiums and out-of-pocket costs and lower
wages.
Ø The Senate should reject the Senate
Finance Committee’s proposals to tax higher cost health
benefits. It will raise costs and cut benefits and wages for
middle-class families across
America.
Ø The Senate should raise the money
needed for health reform by raising revenues on those who earn
more than $250,000.

Affordable if
you don’t get coverage at
work?
If
you don’t get coverage at work you’ll get coverage
through a new health insurance marketplace called an
“exchange.” The amount of premiums you pay and your
out-of-pocket costs will be based on your income. The government
will provide tax credits to help you afford the high cost of
coverage.

To Retirees and
Seniors:
The Alliance of Informed Citizens of Northwest Ohio is
having a retiree and senior seminar on Thursday, October
15th at WPOS Center. The seminar is
geared to issues important to older Americans, such as Medicare,
health, and security.
Our keynote speaker is Ohio Attorney
General Richard Cordray talking about how his office helps older
Americans with monetary and abuse
issues.
In addition Diane Lifey from the
Legislative Dept. of the National Committee for Preservation of
Social Security and Medicare and Sarah Byrne from the Government
Affairs Dept. of the Alliance for Retired Americans will be
speaking to explain the health care bills working their way
through congress. They are both from their Washington D.C. headquarters. Their jobs
are to track the health care issues and how as they will affect
older Americans.
Also Lynn Ritter, PhD from the
Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, will be
giving a presentation on this difficult and disabling problem
affecting so many older
Americans.
This will provide a half day of
education from 8:30
AM to 12:30
PM including 20 exhibitors from helping organizations
that deal with older Americans. Coffee and rolls will be
provided.
The goals of the Alliance of Informed
Citizens is to maintain and improve the quality of life of older
Americans with good health care, we can afford, and be able to
stay in our own homes so we can age in
place.
Please register
and attend this event to increase your knowledge and awareness
of things in our changing world. It is not the same world we
grew up in.
