Support the KC-767 Tanker Program

SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001 needs your support for The Boeing Company's KC-767 Advanced Tanker (AT) proposal and to win the competition for the replacement for the U.S. Air Force fleet of aerial refueling tankers.

Awarding the contract to Boeing, and not Airbus, will create more than 9,000 jobs in Washington state and 35,000 jobs in 39 other states as well.  The U.S. Air Force's decision is expected by the end of January, so the time to get involved is now.

Subject: Support the KC-767 Tanker Program

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As a union Member represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), I am writing regarding the Air Force's impending announcement of whether or not the KC-767 Tanker contract will remain here in the United States, or will be outsourced overseas. I ask that you weigh-in with the Air Force in support of these taxpayer dollars being reinvested in America. In particular, I urge you to support the Boeing KC-767 Advanced Tanker proposal as the replacement for the Air Force fleet of aerial refueling tankers.

Ensuring that the Tanker is American made will result in more than 44,000 jobs in Washington, Kansas and other states. It will also set a critically important trend when it comes to future Pentagon procurement needs for military aircraft. The awarding of the Tanker contract to a U.S. company will give U.S. aerospace workers the ability to continue to prove that their job product is second to none and that their customer, the U.S. Air Force, needs to look no further than its own backyard for their military aircraft needs.

As a member of IFPTE, which includes SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001 members that will work directly on these aircraft, I know the KC-767 Advanced Tanker is the best aircraft for the job. As such, I again ask that you work with the Air Force and your colleagues in Congress to ensure that this project stay right here in America.

Sincerely,

Background Information

Dear IFPTE Members,

The International, in conjunction with SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001, has been working for several years in support of the Air Force’s procurement of the much needed KC-767 Tanker refueling aircraft.  Congress agrees with IFPTE that these Tankers are desperately needed by the Air Force and have authorized their procurement by the Air Force.  However, some in Congress have been actively advocating that the creation of these airplanes to be done overseas.  In this regard, IFPTE is asking its membership to utilize our Union’s Get Active feature by weighing in with your Senators and Representative on this important issue.

IFPTE and SPEEA have obviously expressed our strong dismay to Congress in opposition to the latter scenario.  As is the official position of IFPTE, U.S. taxpayer dollars spent by the federal, state or even local governments should be reinvested in America.  This circumstance is no different, which is why IFPTE supports The Boeing Company's KC-767 Advanced Tanker (AT) proposal.

We need your help to ensure that this work will create and preserve good paying union jobs right here in the United States.  Awarding the contract to Boeing, and not Airbus, will result in more than 9,000 jobs in Washington State and 35,000 jobs in 39 other states.  The Air Force's decision is expected by the end of this month, so the time to get involved is now.

Included with this request is a link to a letter sent by SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001 President Cynthia Cole to her key Senators and Congressional Representatives, http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/SupportKC767.  I have joined her by sending a similar letter under my name to Congress.

In addition to our two letters, I also ask that IFPTE members take action by using our 'Get Active' link on IFPTE's website at http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/kc767.  The link will allow you to electronically support the Tanker program by using the letter provided, or by modifying it to create your own letter of support.  Please also encourage others in your work area or in your community to send letters via the 'Get Active' link as an additional way to impact this effort.

As always, thank you for your Support and Solidarity with SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001.

Sincerely,
Gregory J. Junemann
President - IFPTE
