Senate Bills 19 & 20

Urgent Action is Needed To Kill Indiana Senate Bills 19 and 20

This upcoming Tuesday will be the last day for bills to be voted on by the Indiana Senate in order to move on to the Indiana House. Senate Bills 19 and 20 are damaging legislation that, if passed could have a damaging effect upon working families in Indiana for many years to come!

Senate Bill 19 if enacted will prohibit any city, county, or township from entering into any agreement, passing an ordinance or otherwise requiring any employer( including itself) to pay any wage higer than $5.15 per hour. This will have an intense effect on Indiana's working families. This legislation will affect in particular:

  • local collect bargaining agreements with unions
  • companies that recieve "assistance" to create jobs or locate in a community
  • local common construction and project labor agreements

Senate Bill 20 if enacted, will make it extremely difficult for an employee who has not been paid appropriately  to obtain legal representation  to seek justice in a court of law. In addition, it allows employers to take new deductions from payroll checks for uniforms, equipment used by the employee and required traing costs--all without the consent of the employee!

Please take a moment today and tell your Indiana State Senator to vote "NO" on Senate Bills 19 and 20.
