Quarantine Wal-Mart
Wal-Mart is a danger to public health.
A top recipient of tax subsidies, our public funds are used to build stores and clean up environmental infractions. Our public funds subsidize public services to Wal-Mart employees, including health care. How can we stop the spread of Wal-Martitis? Enlisting the help of our governors, we call on our lawmakers to inoculate our communities. SEND YOUR GOVERNOR A SOLIDARITY LETTER TODAY! Demand that your governor protect the public health!

Subject: Hold Wal-Mart Accountable
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As your constituent, and in the interest of public health, I urge you to protect our state economically, environmentally, and legally from Wal-Mart. Inadequate health care provisions, environmental infractions and discriminatory actions by Wal-Mart negatively affect the welfare of our state. Today, I call on you to serve the public and "quarantine" Wal-Mart. To that end, I ask that you protect our communities by:
- Eliminating tax subsidies for Wal-Mart or any business that endangers our public health
- Supporting legislation which forces Wal-Mart and other Big Box retailers to pay their Fair Share for Health Care
- Mandanting and enforcing corporate responsibility in our communities.
With your help, we can ensure the health of our communities. Quarantining Wal-Mart is the moral and economically sound decision for our state.
Sincerely,
|

June 2nd is the Quarantine Wal-Mart Day of Action. The Quarantine Wal-Mart Day of Action is part of a broad reform effort comprised of community, labor, environmental and immigrant groups. Spearheaded by the Ruckus Society and Jobs with Justice, these organizations are collectively known as the Bureau of Worker Health. We call for economic justice, including health care reform. On June 2nd, Wal-Mart convenes its annual shareholders meeting in Bentonville, Arkansas. On June 2nd, simultaneously,Wal-Mart will go under quarantine! Wearing hazmat suits, gloves, and masks, concerned citizens will launch creative actions at the shareholder meeting and nationwide.
Why a quarantine? Wal-Mart is classified as a danger to public health. Offenses include poverty wages, racial and gender discrimination, economic devastation for local communites, and global exploitations. Other violations include environmental abuses, labor law violations and union busting, immigrant exploitation and health care infractions. Like a disease, these repeated violations spread from community to community causing an outbreak of "Wal-Martitis." What is Wal-Martitis? Symptoms include: swelling welfare rolls; depletion of public funds; exhaustion; difficulty making ends meet; and feverish profits. A top recipient of tax subsidies, our public funds are used to build stores and clean up environmental infractions. Above all, our public funds subsidize public services to Wal-Mart employees including health care. How can we stop the spread of Wal-Martitis? Enlisting the help of our governors, we call on our lawmakers to inoculate our communities. Therefore, SEND YOUR GOVERNOR A SOLIDARITY LETTER TODAY! Demand that your governor protect the public health by:
- Eliminating tax subsidies to the retail giant
- Supporting the Fair Share for Health Care Act or other reform legislation leading to universal health care coverage
- Mandanting and enforcing corporate responsibility in our communities.
What can YOU do? Join your local Quarantine Wal-Mart action TODAY, June 2nd (find a local aciton at www.quarantinewalmart.com), and send a solidarity letter to your governor today. Show our lawmakers that we will protect our economic, environmental, and personal health.
