Federal Transportation Funding

Federal Highway Funding in Jeopardy

The Federal Highway Trust Fund for is underfunded and will impact state funding.  What this means is that if Congress does not act soon to fix the funding shortfall, projects to finish up the current Comprehensive Transportation Program could be effected.  The ripple effect on Kansas amounts to about $120 million.

Legislation has been passed out of committee but no further action has been taken.

Subject: Federal Highway Funding

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am very concerned about the transporation funding shortfall. As my representative in Washington I am hopeful you will be responsible and work promptly to address the Highway Trust Fund Crisis. Time is running out and you will have to act soon.

There are reports that solutions have been offered to fix the shortfall with an $8 billion appropriation but action is stalled. Please do what you can to persuade leadership and others to move forward and pass legislation that addresses this problem. It seems like a small price to pay for investing in our future and saving a nation sinking into a recession. Our infrastructure and good paying American jobs are the benefactors.

Neither the Nations' economy nor the Kansas economy can afford another blow such as this. Inaction by Congress means $120 million in funding to Kansas. With all due respect, please fix this mess.

Sincerely,
