Kentucky State Organizing Campaign Action Center

Greetings,

We CAN get on the other side of danger at work!  That's why we're inviting you to speak up about how to make your job safer -- in one of several Solutions Summits on Job Safety this month.

AFSCME Kentucky has just concluded a poll of Employment and Social Services employees about the risks we face at work. We are also conducting an ongoing survey. So far, the results are clear:  We need solutions to real risks at work.

 Our poll shows::
*74% of Protection and Permanency employees have required law  enforcement back-up
         *42% say doing home visits in pairs is the key to better safety
*52% of Family Support employees receive threats at least 1-2 times per day
         *45% say having security guards in all offices would improve safety

We can get on the other side of danger by proposing common sense solutions to cut our safety risks on the job.  Join in on one of these Solutions Summits.  We'll bring our solutions to a Joint Interim Health and Welfare Committee hearing on October 21st. At the request of AFSCME Kentucky, legislators will review whether the "Boni" bill, passed in 2007 to reduce dangers on the job after Boni Frederick was killed during a home visit, has actually cut our safety risks at work.
