Greetings,
Dear Members,
Mark Wald, a teacher at South High School, died on Christmas
Eve. Mark's funeral has been scheduled for 3:00 PM, Sun.,
1/4/2009, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Ave.,
Minneapolis, with a visitation to be held at the church
beginning at 2:00 PM. Please pass this information on to
colleagues and friends in the manner you think appropriate.
Wald, Mark T. ("Sparky") - Age 49, of Mpls. Died at
home on Christmas Eve. after a long battle with brain cancer.
Was surrounded by love from family and friends throughout his
illness. Graduated from Alexander Ramsey H.S. in 1978. Received
a BA cum laude from Macalester College in 1982 and an MFA from
Pratt Inst. in 1987. After working as an artist in New
York, became a teacher in 1989. Taught art at Washburn H.S., the
InterDistrict Downtown School, and South H.S. Survived by
parents, Roger & Peggy Wald; siblings John (Marianne
Remedios), Judy Werner (Mike), Beth Hanzal, Tom, and David
(Karin); 11 nieces and nephews; partner, Russell Ginyard; and
many friends. Visitation at 2 PM and funeral service at 3 PM,
Sun., Jan. 4, Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet
Ave., Mpls. Memorials preferred to Mark Wald Art Education Fund,
c/o Minneapolis Foundation.

Note: Mark was nominated every year by his students
for the MPS Teacher of the Year award. He loved his work
and the students - and they knew it. He was a wonderful,
fun, creative, and caring person who was dedicated to doing a
great job during his years as a teacher. He will be
missed.
