Stop the Out Sourcing of Public Service Jobs
Time and again we have proven that privatization of public services does not work. Public employees provide quality service and provided that service cheaper and more efficiently than the private sector. Michigan families deserve the best service possible.
Please send an email today to your State Representative and State Senator urging them to take action now to stop the outsourcing of public sector jobs.

Subject: Stop the Out Sourcing of Public Service Jobs!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
The Senate Appropriations Committee is considering a proposal to require that all foster care and nearly all juvenile justice services be provided by private agencies. That same proposal fails to provide for the greatly expanded staffing that would be required to oversee the newly outsourced system.
For years, Michigan has operated a competitive and cooperative public-private partnership on these essential services allowing professionals in the system to determine the best services to meet the needs of the children. Public employees have taken on the most difficult cases and those cases that the private sector is unprepared or unwilling to assume.
While there are many fine private agencies with which we partner, when a private agency fails to provide appropriate services, licensing staff must shut them down. Failure to do so puts children and the public at risk. But closing private agencies without public back-up means no services for these vulnerable populations.
In recent years, the State has given "first pick" to private agencies. This is a disservice to the children and an insult to hard working, dedicated state employees. The decision of proper placement should put the needs of society and children first.
Time and again, we have seen poor service and high costs resulting from forced outsourcing of public services. At the same time, public employees have made wage and benefit concessions and carried ever heavier workloads to help the State of Michigan meet its fiscal needs.
Do not turn your back on the hard working women and men in the State's workforce. More importantly, do not deny the children of the State of Michigan the services they so badly need and so critically deserve. Please reject this dangerous and costly proposal.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
|
