OUR KIDS DESERVE BETTER AND THEIR SCHOOLS CAN'T AFFORD THE CUTS.

State Representatives Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, Ted Hoskins, D-Berkeley, and Rodney Hubbard, D- St. Louis, have introduced a tax credit voucher bill (House Committee Substitute Bill No.639) that will deplete money from our public schools.  This bill, if it passes, will allocate up to forty million dollars in any one fiscal year that could be allocated as tax credits for these so called, "Educational Scholarships" (Another word for VOUCHERS)..

Any corporation, business or individual who makes contributions to an educational assistance organization (another term for private schools) would receive tax credits.

Your state representative needs to hear from you.

Subject: House Committee Substitute for House Bill No. 639

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

House Committee Substitute for House Bill No. 639 is bad news for our schools. This bill will not improve our schools but in fact will take away needed funds from our children's education.

These tax credits will decrease the amount of revenue in the foundation formula, which translates into less money for public education.

I strongly urge you to oppose this legislation and I look forward to hearing from you on this.

Sincerely,

Ask them to vote "No" on House Committee Substitute Bill No. 639

State Republican Representative Jane Cunningham, (District 86_ Chesterfield), has introduced a tax credit voucher bill (House Committee Substitute Bill No.639) that will deplete money from our public schools.  This bill, if it passes, will allocate up to forty million dollars in any one fiscal year as tax credits.

Any corporation, business or individual who makes contributions to an educational assistance organization (another term for private schools) would receive tax credits.

School districts with unaccredited or provisionally accredited schools will be affected.  This includes our schools in both Kansas City and St. Louis.

Research has found that tax credit and voucher plans have not been proven as an effective method of providing quality education for all students.

Even with this so called “scholarship assistance” (another word for VOUUCHERS), the price tag for private schools is way out of reach for most parents, in both urban and rural areas.

Given the resources and right reforms, the record shows that public schools measure up or surpass the results of voucher, charter and private schools.

Our children's schools can't afford the cuts that would results from this bill.  We need to improve our schools and not take away their resources.

Contact your state legislator now.  Let your voice be heard.

We will keep you updated.
