Missouri Working Families Fight Back Team
Missouri--Stop the Anti-Worker Agenda

Stop Three State Bills Threatening Our Wages, Our Benefits, Our Voice and Our Unions

Right now, three new bills in the state Legislature—H.B. 439, 440 and 441—are threatening our wages, our benefits, our voice and our unions.

H.B. 439 bans employers and employees from agreeing that nonmembers should pay a fair share of what it costs the union to negotiate and guarantee their wages and benefits. When nonmembers don’t pay their fair share, it drains the union’s resources and ability to negotiate good contracts. We all suffer.

H.B. 440 would force local unions, elected leaders and even shop stewards to compile expensive, unreasonable reports. But it would let corporations and other organizations off the hook. H.B. 440 unfairly singles out working people and our unions for costly, burdensome regulations.

H.B. 441 takes away our right to fight for working families on issues such as health care and better benefits. It prohibits us from working on voter registration and ballot initiative campaigns while allowing big corporations and wealthy contributors to keep on writing big checks to make their voices heard.

Please use the form below to send a message now urging your state representative to VOTE “NO” on these anti-worker bills.

Subject: Please Vote 'NO' on H.B. 439, 440 and 441

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Tomorrow, as part of Labor Lobby Day, more than 500 union members will visit the state Capitol in Jefferson City, Mo. They will be asking lawmakers like you to reject the anti-worker agenda that has been introduced in the state Legislature. Unless the agenda is stopped, paychecks and benefits will be cut and the voices of Missouri's workers will be silenced.

I urge you to vote "NO" on three dangerous anti-worker bills now before the Missouri Legislature: H.B. 439, 440 and 441.

These three bills threaten our wages and benefits, will silence our voice and will bury our unions in expensive reporting burdens.

H.B. 439 bans employers and employees from deciding together that workers who choose not to join the union should pay a fair share toward the union's cost of negotiating and guaranteeing their wages and benefits. When nonmembers don't pay their fair share, it drains the union's resources and ability to negotiate good contracts. We all suffer.

H.B. 440 forces local unions, elected leaders and even shop stewards to compile expensive, unreasonable reports. It singles out working people and our unions for burdensome requirements while letting corporations and other organizations off the hook.

H.B. 441 silences the voices of working families and takes away our right to fight for issues such as health care and better benefits--while allowing big corporations and wealthy contributors to keep on writing big checks to make their voices heard.

Working families want fair treatment from our state Legislature. These three bills are unfair to working Missourians. Please vote "NO" on them.

Sincerely,
