Dear NALC e-Activist,
Letter carriers and working families across America are
facing tough times. The national recession has taken its toll on
everyone, especially the Postal Service.
The NALC was saddened to learn that Rep. John McHugh was
vacating his seat in Congress to serve as Secretary of the Army.
The NALC has relied on Rep. McHugh's leadership in Congress for
more than 18 years. As one of the strongest advocates for NALC
issues, he will be greatly missed by all of our members, but we
wish him great success in his role as Secretary of the Army.
During this time of economic uncertainty, New York's 23rd
Congressional District needs a leader who will stand up for
working families. That is why the NALC has endorsed Bill
Owens for the House of Representatives. I hope you will
support him as well on Election Day, this Tuesday,
November 3.
Bill Owens understands the
critical role we play in our communities. He will help us
protect our jobs by working with us to ensure the future
viability of the Postal Service. He adamantly opposes
eliminating a day of delivery, which would threaten our jobs and
the long-term sustainability of the Postal Service. He stands
with us on expanding accessibility to voting by mail and opposes
the creation "Do Not Mail" registries.
A veteran and community leader, Bill Owens has helped bring
more than 2,000 jobs to the region by leading efforts on the
redevelopment of Plattsburgh Air Force Base and recruiting
businesses from Canada to relocate to upstate New York. He
strongly believes in the economic potential of the North
Country, and will work diligently to turn that promise into
reality for the working families of New York's 23rd
Congressional District.
We have the opportunity to decide which candidate will help
put us on the road to recovery. The choice is clear: Bill Owens
will stand with us for a stronger upstate New York and a
stronger Postal Service. I hope you will join your
brothers and sisters and cast your ballot for Bill Owens this
Tuesday, November 3.
In Solidarity,
Fredric V. Rolando President, National Association of
Letter Carriers
