Worker Safety - North East Linen
Dear E-Activist,
Earlier this month, 2 workers at North East Linen in Linden,
New Jersey, died at work, asphyziated while cleaning out a
chemical storage tank. This Christmas, the families of
Victor Diaz and Carlos Diaz mourn a tragedy that could have been
prevented.

Subject: NEL workers need safe jobs and a voice to protect their lives
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
I am horrified by the deaths of Victor Diaz and Carlos Diaz at North East Linen. It is appalling that they were found without the required protective equipment, without a safe way out, and without a way to be safely rescued.
A safe workplace is one of the top responsibilities of any employer. That your Connecticut facility was cited for violating part of the safety standard that covers confined spaces last year, makes this tragedy even worse.
Workers at North East Linen and New England Linen have been organizing with UNITEHERE for over a year, asking for safer jobs and better conditions, and a voice at work to ensure they can protect themselves and each other.
Workers at your laundries need a voice in cleaning up their workplace and North East Linen must commit to comprehensive health and safety reform.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

What's At Stake:
Workers at the company have been organizing with UNITEHERE and fighting for safer jobs, better conditions, and a voice at work for over a year. Last month, the federal government charged North East Linen with illegally firing a union supporter and making threats. When north East Linen employees work in fear and without union protection, they are at the mercy of their employer's failure to provide a safe workplace.
Tell New England Capital partners, owners of North East Linen, that deadly indifference to worker safety is not acceptable.
