Recent Delta Management Mailing:
I have always tried to keep the information in the monthly Newsletter as short, and to the point as possible, without expressing my personal opinions.  Please allow me to take this opportunity to voice my resentment to the subject below.

By now you should have received your glossy mailing containing the CD, bag tag, window decal, and paper airplane in your home mailbox.  How much do you think it cost to produce and distribute that mailer?  Please keep in mind, there are over 75,000 employees at the ‘New Delta’.  That is a lot of money!  Money undoubtedly that could have been used to give you something that you need, or could actually use.  Perhaps you would have preferred to get a print out of the MEM bid packet?  Or a few more shares of stock?  For all the money wasted, they could have printed a bid packet for every base, for months to come.

We have to be diligent, and not fall for these diversion tactics, while they are preparing to take complete control of your work life.  We have all read how the economy is slowing, and a recession is looming.  Delta has announced they are downsizing the CVG operations, and who knows what they have planned for MEM.  Now that they have gotten this mammoth merger through the regulatory process, they can do anything they want.  They do not have to keep any promises.  Remember their statement was, “there will no base or hub closings, as a result of the merger.”  That clears them to do anything they want, as a result of the economy or fuel costs.  It is important to keep in mind, at Delta, without the protection of Section 14 (Reduction of Force & Recall) of your current Contract, a base closing could be furlough without the right of recall -   regardless of your seniority.

Our inside sources tell us that our friend, Brian Moreau has been tagged as the head of the combined Scheduled Dept for the ‘New Delta’.  Please take a few minutes and imagine your life:  reporting to work in a world where Brian Moreau is in charge of Scheduling, and no Contract to keep him in check.

Remember Brian is the person responsible for the 70 hour minimum ‘double cross’, and the November-December 2006 scheduling disaster, which is all still freshly burned into our minds. (Remember everyone being flown into their days off!)  Both of those issues were dealt with through the arbitration process granted by having a Contract and a Union.  He can no longer play those games, due to a settlement or arbitration award.

Keep in mind there are a lot of protections your contract provides, that we take for granted every time we fly.  We have had these protections for over 60 years, it would be sad if we let them take them away.

AFA-CWA Representational Campaign:  The campaign to retain Union representation is under way.  Brenda McAden and Lucy Emanuel have volunteered to be the Tennessee State Chairs.  If you live in TN contact either Lucy or Brenda.  Daniel Duhin is the Mississippi State Chair.  If you live in MS please contact Daniel.   If you have volunteered to help, one of them will be contacting you very soon.  If you would like to assist, please contact either Lucy at lemanueal@nwaafa.org (901-359-8836), Brenda at bmcaden@nwaafa.org (901-389-7425) or Daniel Duhin at dwduhin@gmail.com (662-838-3515) depending on your State of residence, and one of them will sign you up.

Contract Reference Guides:  Your LEC has inserted a contract reference guide in your Inflight mailbox.  If you are a Reserve, we have also added a Reserve Guidelines.  Please keep these materials with your contract to facilitate quicker resolutions with Scheduling when you have questions.

Happy Holidays:  Your LEC Officers want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Be Safe, Fly the Contract, and Wear your Union Pin,
