Greetings,

FLIGHT ATTENDANTS NOT AFFECTED BY RECENT NATIONAL MEDIATION BOARD DECISION

Washington, DC – Kevin Griffin, Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) Northwest Airlines President, and Marianne Bicksler, AFA-CWA Delta Air Lines activist, issued the following statement today after the National Mediation Board (NMB) announced its decision in the Delta pilots’ single carrier application.

“The NMB’s recent decision not to extend the pilots’ application to flight attendants and the entire Delta workforce rightly puts the decision of union representation back into the hands of Northwest and Delta flight attendants. This is our future and our choice.

“This important election should not be left up to a third party or a new management team who has much to gain by prematurely advancing an election for union representation. Flight attendants at the newly merged carrier will continue to move forward to combine our two great traditions and when there has been significant advancement in merging the flight attendant groups, we will call upon the NMB to grant our single transportation status.”

For over 60 years, the Association of Flight Attendants has been serving as the voice for flight attendants in the workplace, in the aviation industry, in the media and on Capitol Hill.  More than 55,000 flight attendants at 20 airlines come together to form AFA-CWA, the world’s largest flight attendant union. AFA is part of the 700,000-member strong Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO. Visit us at www.afanet.org
