Greetings,

 Local Council 93-MEM

March Newsletter

Local Council Meeting:  We are excited to announce that International President Pat Friend will be attending our March 18th LEC Meeting.  You can go to www.afa93.org to view the agenda.

Location:  Memphis Airport, Conference Room “A”,  (Directly adjacent to TSA Security Checkpoint for Concourse “A”)

Date and Time:  March 18th,  11:30AM until 3:00PM

Employee Buses:  As published in our February Newsletter there continues to be a petition circulated about the difficulty in using the employee buses.  You recently received and email from Base Manager, Maureen Nyquist saying that she had requested the Delta Safety Department review the process.  Their findings were that the buses meet the mandated requirements.   She also pointed out that the yearly average reported accidents on the buses did not warrant any further action.

Our position continues to be that improvement could be made.  Why do they have buses in both DTW and MSP that allow you to roll aboard the bus?  They also provide those types of buses for the traveling public here in MEM.  Next time you are waiting for the employee bus notice the buses used for Long Term Parking.

In the future please report any accidents that occur to you or anyone you know to your LEC Officers and Memphis Inflight.  We believe if they know how many of us are being injured they might have a different view.

Wilson Center Poll Results:  AFA-CWA recently conducted a scientific polling of the Northwest and Delta flight attendant group to determine our priorities as we move toward continued representation.   The results of the polling were very positive.  The group overwhelmingly believes that the ‘new’ Delta is the premier global airline and should provide the employees with the premier global contract.  The majority of our flight attendants polled believe that Delta management is receiving premium pay, bonuses, and stock options and believe we as employees are entitled to the same. We all know that the only way to achieve this is through negotiating with a UNIFIED voice and put in place a legally binding contract.

Elimination of the 2 ½ to 8 Hour Call:  Management recently rescinded the 2 ½ to 8 hour call.  We were excited to see this improvement but disappointed that they were not willing to put this in writing and change the language of our agreement.  You should be aware that they can change it back at any time.

On Premise Reserve (OPR):  Managment plans to activate the long dormant OPR language in Section 7- Reserve of our contract: http://nwaafa.org/docs/rsv/NWReserveOPR.pdf.  It would be to your advantage to familiarize yourself with the provisions.  The Company would like to start OPR on May 1st if the programming is complete.  AFA will meet with the Company regarding the specifics (affected bases, numbers, required facilities and amenities, etc.) and report this information as soon as possible.

LEC 93 Air Safety Health & Security (ASHS) and Purser Committees:  We would like to take this opportunity to say “THANK YOU” to Angie Gilluly and DiAnn Teske who served as Council 93 ASHS Committee.  They have both taken advantage of the recent Early Out.  Their enthusiastic contributions to our Union and mainly the MEM based flight attendants will be sorely missed.

We also would like to extend a “THANK YOU” to Brenda Heltz who served as our Purser Chair.  Brenda served our served our MEM Pursers well and has decided to pass this duty off and allow someone else the opportunity.

If there is anyone who would be interested in serving on either of these two committees please contact your LEC Officers and we will bring it before the members at the next scheduled meeting.  Keep in mind you must be a Purser to serve on the Purser Committee, and AFA will send you to the necessary training to serve on the ASHS Committee.  Should you have any questions about any LEC Committee please contact any of your LEC Officers.
