Local 94 Phone System Upgrade and Contact Information

We are pleased to report that the Local 94 office phone system has been upgraded to include individual officer extensions that connect callers to each of our desks and/or voicemail 24/7, as indicated below.  Additionally, all NWA-AFA officer e-mail addresses have been simplified system-wide to a uniform First Initial plus Last Name format.  Complete officer and committee contact information can still be found at http://www.nwaafa.org or http://www.afa94.org.

"Writing Up" Coworkers vs. EAP

Rumors and other anecdotal evidence suggest there may be a new spate of "writing up" and "turning in" fellow crewmembers to management for an assortment of perceived offenses, including service discrepancies.  AFA AND YOUR LOCAL 94 OFFICERS STRONGLY DISCOURAGE THIS DIVISIVE AND DESTRUCTIVE PRACTICE BY ALL PARTIES.  In the most fundamental sense, this behavior undermines CRM and essential onboard teamwork by destroying mutual trust and respect in the workplace.  Absent trust, our on-the-job atmosphere can become infected with suspicion, hostility and even fear of the very colleagues charged to save your life in an emergency.

The AFA Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to assist with numerous individual issues, as well as crew conflict situations. If an onboard conflict or scenario leaves you unsure of your options, put down the pen and don't run to Inflight.  Contact the EAP at (800) 424-2406.  Encourage your co-workers to do the same.

CBT Training Disk Problems

Please note that official base support for CBT training ended August 31, following one year of hands-on local instructor availability during the transition.  Flight Attendants continue to report a variety of unusual computer problems following use of the CBT disk on their personal computers.  If you choose to complete CBT on your personal computer, please follow all computer protocols.  Properly exit the program when finished, do not try to close the program while it is still loading, and do not leave the disk in your drive after completing a session.  To avoid potential risk to your laptop altogether, the NWA computer lab is available at DTW Inflight, as well as other bases. If you have experienced major technical difficulties with your laptop or desktop computer in conjunction with use of the CBT disk, please contact Local 94 with your specific details in writing.

AFA-CWA BOD Continuing Committee Nominees

Local 94 Council Representatives Janette Rook and Belea Bower have been nominated to serve on the AFA Board of Directors' Leadership Development Committee and International Affairs Committee, respectively.  These committee positions will be voted on by the AFA-CWA Executive Board on September 24, 2007.

Revised Local 94 Officer Nomination List

Attached you will find a revised Local 94 Officer Nomination List.  The voting period for local officer elections begins September 21, 2007 and ends October 12, 2007.

AFA-CWA BOD Meeting and Agenda Items

This year's AFA-CWA Board of Directors (BOD) meeting will be held October 16-18 in Phoenix at the Wyndham Hotel, immediately following the BOD Master Executive Council (MEC) Meeting October 13-15.  Among other things, any amendments to the AFA Constitution and Bylaws will be voted on at that time by the BOD, comprised of Local Executive Council Presidents (LECPs) from every AFA carrier system-wide.  The AFA-CWA BOD is the highest governing body of the union.  All members in good standing are invited to attend.

The AFA-CWA Constitution recommends each Local Executive Council hold a Council Meeting to discuss and solicit MEC Meeting agenda items from Local Council Members prior to the annual BOD meeting.   Local 94 members are encouraged to bring agenda items to next week's meeting, as the deadline for submission is September 15.  Please submit these items in writing, so they can be accurately conveyed to the MEC.
